Your Sierra Vista Sunrise Rotary Ride To End Polio team have just completed their rides. Scott, Kay, Mike, and Pete celebrate above and even though it was not quite the same as riding into Paris and down the Champs-Elysees in July, it’s making a significant impact this fall on Rotary’s fight to End Polio. Join us.
Since 1985, individual Rotarians around the world have contributed over $1 billion to this fight to eradicate polio. In that year, there were over 350,000 endemic wild poliovirus cases reported in 125 countries. We are excited to advise that with Nigeria just being certified polio free, the entire African continent is so certified. That leaves just the primarily remote areas in the two counties of Afghanistan and Pakistan left to beat the endemic wild poliovirus.
While fighting to eradicate the wild poliovirus in these two countries, Rotarians worldwide, working with local governments and health organizations, continue to provide financial resources and tens of thousands volunteer hours to insure that the poliovirus does not reemerge in countries that are now polio free.
