Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The Rotary Club of Newport Beach would like to invite you to help support the Special Olympics BBQ and Torch Walk on May 9th 2019.

I was honored to be the chair of the Newport Beach Host town committee and proud of how Newport Beach has become a strong advocate for those with special needs. In 2015 the city became a Host Town for World Games, Special Olympics Los Angeles. We hosted 150 athletes from Mexico and Fiji, providing housing, training and recreational experiences prior to the games. Post-World Games, the city experienced an explosion of athlete growth. Television coverage and word of mouth caught the attention of local families with special needs. The city’s special athlete population jumped from 144 to 539 in a two-year period.

Please help us keep the momentum growing by Joining us on May 9th from 6-9pm for the Unity Torch Walk, Mini Hoop Challenge and BBQ at The Newport Beach Civic Center.

Last year we had over 300 Special Olympic Athletes, Newport Beach Police, Fire, City Council and Rotarians converge on the Art Sculpture park trails and enjoying fine wines, craft beer, a live band and great BBQ!

We expect to sell out this year so please purchase your tickets today for $70.00.

Your name will be at will call.

Entry fee includes:

  • Torch Walk through the art trails adjacent to Newport Beach Civic Center
  • BBQ Celebration including beer, wine, soda, food & live music
  • Hoop Shoot Challenge spectator

Please feel free to wear your Rotary Club Shirts and pins!
