The Catalina Island Search & Support Unit, a program of Horse's Heart, is a volunteer mounted support team dedicated to assisting public safety agencies, emergency responders, and community organizations operating in Catalina Island's unique backcountry.

Working alongside organizations such as fire departments, law enforcement, emergency management agencies, and search and rescue teams, our mission is to provide horse-mounted support capabilities where horses offer safe, efficient access to remote terrain that vehicles often cannot reach.

Our volunteers and horses may assist by providing:

• Mounted transportation and logistical support
• Delivery of equipment, water, food, and emergency supplies
• Backcountry communications assistance
• Search operations support under the direction of lead agencies
• Welfare checks and access to remote locations
• Disaster and wildfire support operations
• Community emergency preparedness and training
• Public education and outreach
