Help Support the Herd

Sometimes deciding when to retire a horse is an obvious decision. An injury or personal situation may force an owner to transition their riding horse into a pasture ornament, or worst-case scenario euthanize them. OTRA MAS offers an alternative to euthanasia or solitary confinement for those horses who may be ready to retire from their current livelihood. Horses that come to OTRA MAS are given a new purpose in life, as partners in our Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning programs. 

Many horses are imprinted at birth and crave daily interaction with humans and other horses. These particular horses don’t do well in a pasture - they often feel abandoned, lonely, and without purpose. After a lifetime of gratifying “work”, they are now missing their reason for being. 

As members of the OTRA MAS herd, these horses are given a new lease on life, through daily interaction with humans and other horses and a new career providing valuable healing to members of our Southern California communities.
