Flight and flame became metaphors for the acts of movement and change required to leave being unhoused, food insecure or housing insecure behind. Advancing as a butterfly or a flame is never the same exact journey. So is the journey out of homelessness - never exactly the same. For each person the flight out, or the flame to succeed, brightens and dims, and sparks up at a different location and burns or flies steadily for a while, until it changes again. Lori Province never picked up a piece of sheet metal until after her retirement from 40 years handling benefits and training for Washington's workers who lost their jobs. Raised on a farm where all the 'traditional' arts were part of her portfolio (baking, canning, sewing, quilting), when she retired to Sun City in 2016 and was looking for something different, Lori found it in the Bell Metal Club. Lori also has a link to her local Washington Rotary and many personal experiences working with the unhoused, precariously house, and food insecure individuals. "It feels right to help our neighbors in the new home as well," says Lori. This is her second year of participating with Phoenix Rotary 100 and Take Flight!
