Small - 12 inch butterfly
Inspired by the song this butterfly is a tribute to the rock band Heart. As 4th generation artist, Russ had a love of art at an early age, painting in Taos and Santa Fe. Growing up in New Mexico during the creative cultural history of the 60s, he was further influenced by art instructor Frank McCulloch (considered the father of New Mexico arts) who explained that art was about self-expression. Due to McCulloch’s impact, Russ was drawn to teaching art and moved to Colorado in the early 70’s, where he received a BS in commercial art. Living in San Francisco his art grew at the Institute of Art, creating works of art for notable musicians such as Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock and John Paul Jones. Eventually moving to Arizona where Russ has participated in various workshops, art festivals, coffee house installations and juried shows, selling many works to private collectors. Currently, along with painting, Russ is an art instructor for the City Of Tempe, ASU Emeritus Collage, teaches private classes, is a speaker, as well as holds demonstrations/workshops. Recently, a work was honored with First Place in Landscape Paintings. www.RBAart.com
