Inspired by Team Kids. Powered by Community. Recently, I had the privilege of meeting with a group of elementary school students from Anneliese's Academy in Laguna Beach through a Team Kids service-learning project. The students selected cancer support as their impact area and chose Cancer Kinship as the organization they wanted to support. They then put on their entrepreneur hats and organized a fundraising carnival, selling tickets, creating games, and inviting family and friends to participate. Together, they raised an incredible $1,090. After the fundraiser, I joined the students for a wrap-up conversation. What was scheduled as a brief visit became one of the most meaningful conversations I've had all year. The students shared stories about parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends who had been impacted by cancer. They asked thoughtful questions about treatment, hair loss, side effects, and survivorship. What struck me most wasn't just their curiosity—it was their empathy. They reminded me that cancer impacts entire families and communities, and that each of us has the ability to make a difference. Their compassion inspired me. So, I'm accepting the $1,090 Challenge and inviting my community to join me. My goal is to raise $1,090 to support Cancer Kinship's free programs and services, including peer mentorship, support groups, survivor education, community resource navigation, and free wigs for individuals experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment. As an 18-year survivor of Stage III triple-negative breast cancer, I know firsthand that cancer affects far more than the body. It impacts emotional well-being, relationships, confidence, finances, and quality of life. Through Cancer Kinship, we help individuals and families navigate these challenges with practical support, compassionate connection, and hope. If a group of compassionate elementary school students can rally their community to raise $1,090, I believe we can too. Will you help me meet—or exceed—their goal? Every dollar makes a difference. Every gift helps transform fear into hope. Thank you for being part of this community and for helping us ensure that no one has to face cancer without support.
