Why Give Books to Babies?

Babies are born learning. First Things First has wonderful tips and videos about talking and reading to babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Here is a link to their website:

Every month each registered child receives a book addressed to him/her in the mail. Having his/her own mail is very exciting as witnessed by the grandmother of one recipient, "While my Grandson is only 21 months old, one of his favorite activities is to be read to. Since the Imagination Library books began arriving in the mail, we have a daily ritual of going to the mailbox to check and see if it is 'New Book Day'. When it is, he is literally jumping for joy and you can be sure we will be sitting reading his new book for at least the next hour!" When a child learns that reading is fun, reading will not be such a big chore in school.

Imagination Library books have been selected by experts for each age level. The books often include tips on the fly-leaf for how parents can engage their young readers and help them to get the most from their books.

I am a new pediatrician in Cottonwood. I am happy to say my clinic at the Community Health Center of Yavapai has this in place and I recommend it to my patients every day, in addition to enjoying the wonderful books with my own two little ones. Thank you so much for helping provide this wonderful service.

What Parents Tell Us

We frequently receive calls and letters telling us how much parents appreciate the wonderful books their children receive. Here is one about how the books help to amuse children as they shelter at home.
