$4,383 Raised

$4,585 goal

In Los Angeles Unified School District, there are an estimated 11,000 students who are experiencing homelessness [LA Times]. Through her newly introduced program "Kid's First", City Councilmember Nury Martinez is looking to close the learning gaps accentuated by the pandemic.

When we read about the homeless families trying to homeschool their children in the parking lot we had to do something. So we contacted Councilmember Martinez to understand where they needed the most support. They have requested individual donations of Target gift cards to help support the holiday expenses for 300 students and their families. These gift cards will support the 50 families currently living in transition in the Hyland Motel in Van Nuys, California.  Anything we raise above and beyond our goal will serve the other homeless families attending LAUSD.

Studies have shown that students experiencing homelessness have lower attendance rates, lower participation rates and, in turn, lower grades compared to their well-served peers.
