Providence Mission Hospital was founded in Mission Viejo, California in 1971 and has since grown to a two-campus facility with 552 beds and approximately 2,700 employees. Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach is an acute care, full-service facility providing advanced health care services and diagnostic care and is the only designated trauma center in south Orange County.
In 1993, Providence Mission Hospital partnered with CHOC Children’s to provide pediatric services and a year later, became a member of St. Joseph Health, which is a nonprofit Catholic health care ministry founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.
In 2016, Providence Health & Services and St. Joseph Health came together to create Providence St. Joseph Health, a not-for-profit health and social services system that serves as the parent organization for more than 100,000 caregivers (employees) across seven states. “A cornerstone of our mission is addressing significant social, community and health needs of our most vulnerable populations,” said Rod Hochman, M.D., CEO, Providence.
