The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes Foundation 2000 is a 501-C3 nonprofit. As a club and foundation, several years ago we chose to partner with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. Currently, we have more than 750 children registered in four zip codes, who receive one age-appropriate book each month until their 5th birthday. Early childhood development and the number of neural connections being made in a child's brain during this time frame is one of the keys to their future success.
As you can imagine, the cost of running an ongoing program like this is substantial when you have so many children enrolled, and registrations are increasing rapidly. But when you break it down to just one child from birth to the age of five, total cost is just $125 per child or $2.09 per book for 60 books, that can be read repeatedly, it begins to look like a good deal!
